There are two ways to find people to follow on Instagram. You can connect your device’s contact list in the app and Instagram will recommend accounts to follow based on your contacts. This article will explore how you can find people you know on Instagram and add your contacts as “following”.
How to Add Your Contacts on Instagram
Keep in mind that when you confirm your phone number or email on Instagram, your account may be recommended to users who have your contact information in their device’s contact list. Your phone number and email are stored on Instagram when you sign up for an account with this information or have added it to your Personal Information. This way you can find your contacts who have added their phone number and email to their account.
Note: Make sure you have added your contacts to your phonebook on your phone including email addresses.
On the Instagram app for Android and iPhone follow these steps:
- Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap
in the top right, then tap
Settings.
- Tap Account,
- then tap Contacts Syncing.
- Tap
next to Connect Contacts to turn on contact syncing.
Now on your profile click on the + icon to discover people
Then click “See all” to see all contacts.
How to Find People on Instagram By Their Name
You can also tap on 🔍 at the bottom of the screen to search for people you’d like to follow.
Keep in mind that your contact list is periodically synced and your contacts will be re-uploaded the next time Instagram syncs your contacts. To stop this, go to your device settings and also turn off contacts syncing on all devices logged into Instagram.
