'Gentrification is real': Raleigh considers special tax for area near Dix Park

Raleigh city leaders are discussing the possibility of a special tax area in and around Dorothea Dix Park, called a municipal service district. The tax would be in addition to existing city and county property taxes, and would be used to help fund and sustain the development of the park. It would amount to 10 cents per $100 of property valuation, or $400 a year for a property with a tax value of $400,000. The park is currently funded by public money, donations, and some rental uses.
