As housing costs outpace wage growth, S.A. renters left hurting - San Antonio Express

SAN ANTONIO — Renters in every City Council district across San Antonio earn less than homeowners, and nearly half of them spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing, according to a report by a nonprofit focused on housing equity. The profiles are broken out by council district and include figures about types and ages of housing units, average rents, average median household income of renters and homeowners, and the percentage of units available to renters earning the minimum wage. The average monthly rent paid by a tenant has risen from $748 to $1,025 during that period, and the number of units accessible to renters earning the minimum wage has fallen by 24 percent, according to the nonprofit.
