According to Ted Dabrowski from Wirepoints, Chicago is facing the risk of a “doom loop” due to its high crime, bad schools, empty downtown office buildings, and high taxes that are driving businesses away. A Lincoln Institute of Land Policy study found that Chicago has the second highest commercial property taxes in the country, with total taxes billed in the city having increased 93% over the past decade. With the added spending promised by new Mayor Brandon Johnson, Dabrowski believes he will have to raise taxes in order to meet his objectives.
