According to a report released Tuesday by Apartment List, 52% of American millennials between the ages of 27 and 42 now own homes. San Diego is near the bottom of the nationwide standings, with only 34% of millennials owning homes. Homeownership rates for millennials are five to seven percentage points lower than their generational predecessors when they were in their 30s. Despite this, homeownership is still seen as a way to protect against inflation and create family wealth, but many millennials feel that due to the high cost, they will never be able to afford a home.
