Development levies threaten the viability of Vancouver rental projects
Chard Development recently broke ground on a 575-unit rental project in Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood. However, if the project had faced current development charges, it would not have been viable. The project was able to proceed due to city fees being lower a few years ago and the extra density allowed for a portion of below-market units to be allocated to the YWCA.
