Spouses Who Finance Houses

In the US, moving $300K from a traditional IRA into a life annuity at 70 can produce a guaranteed $2.05K monthly check for life.
Traditional IRA dollars were untaxed, so each annuity payment is fully taxable income. In a low-teens federal bracket, about $246 per check is withheld.
The lifetime payment helps manage longevity risk and ignores market drops, but the promise depends on the insurer. State guaranty backstops cap coverage near $250K.
Tradeoffs matter: once annuitized, the lump sum usually loses liquidity and may leave nothing to heirs. Added survivor, period-certain, or inflation features reduce starting income.
A longevity annuity option can keep up to $210K out of RMD calculations until age 85, while delaying government retirement benefits may offer inflation-adjusted income.

Every Dollar of Annuity Payment Is Taxable

In Late-Q3, non-QM loans made up 12% of US production, ↑nearly 5 points yearly, even as an expert saw broader market activity slow.
The same expert said non-QM had tracked the broader market for months, rising faster on the way up and easing more slowly downward.
Late-Q3 marked the first divergence: broader activity slowed on a yearly basis, while non-QM gained share, signaling borrowers and originators were exploring alternative financing paths.
The implication was clear: some US housing demand may have been delayed by market conditions, not erased, as borrowers adapted financing choices.
ARMs illustrated that adjustment: borrowers seeking a manageable payment could choose a 5/1 ARM and accept future reset risk to keep buying plans moving.
