In the US, divorce may not remove an ex-spouse from a life insurance policy; insurers often pay the named beneficiary directly, regardless of a will.
Some states have revocation-on-divorce laws that can cancel a former spouse's designation, but exceptions apply and outcomes still depend on specific policy details.
Employer-provided life insurance can follow federal rules, requiring plan administrators to honor current plan documents, so workplace coverage needs its own beneficiary review.
An ex-spouse may stay listed because a divorce agreement required coverage for support obligations, making court orders and policy rules important before changes.
Updating a will usually will not override a policy beneficiary; if a former spouse becomes ineligible, proceeds may go to contingents or the estate.
To protect intended heirs, review every policy after marriage or divorce, confirm primary and contingent beneficiaries, and get written confirmation when updates are accepted.

Divorce May Not Remove an Ex-Spouse

Most homeowners policies exclude termite damage because infestations are viewed as preventable maintenance issues, not sudden accidental losses insurance is built to cover.
Coverage may apply when termites trigger a separate covered peril, such as a sudden collapse or fire caused by damaged wiring within walls.
Repair bills can span from minor fixes to major structural work, and severe infestations may push costs into the $10Ks for homeowners.
Yearly inspections, quick treatment, less wood near foundations, trimmed greenery, good drainage, ventilation, and sealed gaps can all help reduce termite risk.
If termites lead to a covered fire and the home becomes unlivable, standard loss-of-use coverage may help fund temporary housing during repairs.
