A claims technology provider in Canada said it will not help insurers deny claims automatically, insisting a human stays responsible for final decisions.
The AI reviews claim files, surfaces facts, opportunities, and risks, while leaving judgment to insurers; an executive said ~80% of workload can be automated.
Complex injury claims show why human oversight matters: identical accidents and injuries can still end differently because of pre-existing conditions, lifestyles, and circumstances.
Federally regulated Canadian insurers will face model-risk rules on May 1, 2027, covering traditional models, AI, and machine-learning systems, including third-party vendor models.
The federal regulator said higher-risk models may need tighter limits, added safeguards, and greater scrutiny, especially when explainability, bias, privacy, drift, or autonomy arise.

Automate the Process, Not the Judgment

Ontario drivers paid $2.65K yearly avg. for auto insurance, but the lowest-cost communities clustered east of Toronto, highlighting how strongly location shaped premiums.
Petawawa, Pembroke, and Beachburg posted Ontario’s lowest avg. premium at $1.82K yearly, or $152 monthly, nearly $830 below the provincial avg. overall.
All ten cheapest communities sat east of Toronto, and nine were in eastern Ontario proper, where avg. yearly premiums ranged from $1.82K to $1.87K.
An insurance expert said area-wide claims patterns help explain Ontario price gaps, including local collision, theft, fraud, and commuting conditions beyond a driver’s own history.
Drivers still had options to trim costs: keep a clean record, compare quotes at renewal, choose cheaper-to-insure vehicles, and review available discounts carefully.
