The federal program splits coverage into inpatient care, outpatient care, private alternative plans with extra benefits, and prescription drugs; supplemental policies help with out-of-pocket costs.
During Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, review whether preferred doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals accept your coverage, and whether prescriptions and upcoming care still fit.
This coverage is individual, so it will not insure a spouse or dependents. Extra perks can include grocery allowances, flex cards, gym access, and transportation.
Assisted living is not covered. The program covers only short-term skilled nursing care in a skilled nursing facility, so other options should be explored.
Cost planning matters: yearly out-of-pocket caps are $9.25K for medical costs and $2.1K for drug costs, with the drug cap estimated higher next year.

Medicare Choices to Review Before Enrollment

In the US, divorce may not remove an ex-spouse from a life insurance policy; insurers often pay the named beneficiary directly, regardless of a will.
Some states have revocation-on-divorce laws that can cancel a former spouse's designation, but exceptions apply and outcomes still depend on specific policy details.
Employer-provided life insurance can follow federal rules, requiring plan administrators to honor current plan documents, so workplace coverage needs its own beneficiary review.
An ex-spouse may stay listed because a divorce agreement required coverage for support obligations, making court orders and policy rules important before changes.
Updating a will usually will not override a policy beneficiary; if a former spouse becomes ineligible, proceeds may go to contingents or the estate.
To protect intended heirs, review every policy after marriage or divorce, confirm primary and contingent beneficiaries, and get written confirmation when updates are accepted.
