Ontario approved Mississauga’s Official Plan 2051, enabling >370K new residential units citywide through 2051. The plan prioritizes more housing along transit corridors and “gentle density” in neighbourhoods across Mississauga. Other goals include mixed-use communities, job growth protections, and expanded walking, cycling, and transit infrastructure. Officials said the plan is now in effect, replacing the former plan; new development applications must align. The province approved it with modifications, to be added to a final version in coming weeks. I’m seeing Mississauga formalize a long-term growth blueprint that emphasizes adding housing, shaping development around transit, supporting jobs, improving transportation choices, and strengthening environmental and heritage protections.
