Small-scale infill projects, including accessory dwelling units and buildings with two to eight units, have significantly increased in Toronto, rising from 0.62% to 6.45% of housing starts in two years. Similar growth occurred in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. Zoning reforms allowing multiplexes have facilitated this trend. Nationally, small-scale infill made up about 10% of housing starts, offsetting declines in single-detached homes, though larger infill projects still dominate.
