The Atlanta region added 53,690 residents, reaching over 5.3 million, but growth slowed from 1.2% to 1%. No counties lost population, with Fulton, Forsyth, and Henry counties growing the most. Slower growth is linked to a decline in home building permits and high housing costs, limiting domestic migration. Job growth also slowed, adding only 1,000 jobs. The regional commission will use these estimates to guide local planning and will soon release a Regional Housing Strategy.
