Illinois has raised the income limit for its senior property-tax freeze to $75,000 for 2026, up from $65,000, expanding eligibility for homeowners 65 and older. The freeze locks the home's assessed value to prevent tax base increases from rising property values but does not cap the actual tax bill. Seniors must file annually to maintain the freeze, which applies only to assessment, not tax rates or levies. The limit will increase further through 2028.
