Medicare Advantage enrollees have access to about 48% of local physicians available to traditional Medicare beneficiaries, highlighting a tradeoff between extra benefits and limited provider choice. Network sizes vary widely, with narrow networks offering access to one-third of physicians and broad networks over two-thirds. Access also differs by specialty, with more specialists than primary care doctors included. A new Medicare Plan Finder tool helps beneficiaries check if preferred providers are in-network during open enrollment.
