Ontario moves to cut HST on new homes in bid to boost housing affordability
Ontario plans to remove the 13% HST on most new homes through the HST Relief Implementation Act, potentially saving buyers up to $130,000. The rebate applies fully to homes priced at $1 million or less, with gradual reductions for homes up to $1.5 million. Funded jointly by provincial and federal governments, the program aims to boost housing starts by 8,000, support 21,000 jobs, and stimulate the economy. Applications will open for homes purchased between April 2026 and March 2027.
