Research shows Vancouver's strict short-term rental (STR) regulations, limiting listings to principal residences, have slowed rent increases. After implementing these rules, rents rose 1.7% less annually, saving renters about $55 monthly on average across Canada. While STR restrictions help, larger rental market factors have greater impact, but STR rules are an easier way to moderately reduce rental costs.
